Behaviour Therapy at Untangle focuses on understanding why behaviours occur and helping children develop practical skills that support communication, emotional regulation, independence and participation in everyday life.
Rather than simply trying to stop challenging behaviours, our therapists look at the needs behind them and develop individualised strategies based on each child’s strengths, environment and developmental needs.
✓ Personalised Therapy Plans
✓ Parent Guidance & Coaching
✓ Evidence-Based Intervention
Behaviour Therapy is an evidence-informed approach that helps children develop practical skills needed for everyday life. Rather than simply trying to stop challenging behaviours, Behaviour Therapy focuses on understanding why behaviours occur and teaching children more effective ways to communicate, regulate emotions, solve problems and participate confidently at home, in school and within the community.
At Untangle, we recognise that every child’s behaviour serves a purpose. Our therapists work closely with families to identify triggers, understand developmental needs and create personalised intervention plans that build meaningful skills while respecting each child’s individuality.
Through structured play, positive reinforcement, parent coaching and collaborative goal-setting, Behaviour Therapy supports long-term progress rather than short-term behaviour management.
Behaviour Therapy may benefit children who experience challenges with emotional regulation, behaviour, communication or everyday functioning, including those who:
✓ Experience frequent emotional outbursts or meltdowns
✓ Have difficulty following routines or instructions
✓ Struggle with emotional regulation
✓ Display aggressive, impulsive or challenging behaviours
✓ Find transitions or changes in routine challenging
✓ Experience social or behavioural challenges at school
✓ Need support developing independence and everyday life skills
If you’re unsure whether Behaviour Therapy is right for your child, our comprehensive assessment will help identify the most appropriate support plan.
Every child’s journey at Untangle begins with a comprehensive assessment. During this session, we take time to understand your child’s strengths, developmental needs and the concerns that brought your family to us.
Following the assessment, we recommend the most appropriate therapies, the ideal session frequency and an individualised therapy plan tailored to your child’s unique needs.
Based on the assessment findings, our team develops an individualised therapy plan with clear goals, recommended therapies and measurable outcomes. Every plan is tailored to your child’s strengths, challenges and developmental priorities, ensuring therapy is purposeful, structured and focused on meaningful progress.
Each therapy session lasts 45 minutes and is delivered on a individual basis in a structured, engaging and child-friendly environment.
Sessions are tailored to your child’s goals and may focus on communication, emotional regulation, behaviour, social interaction, play skills, independence and daily living skills. Every session builds on previous progress while encouraging confidence, participation and meaningful development.
Most children attend two to three therapy sessions per week, depending on their individual needs, goals and therapist recommendations. Session frequency is determined after the initial assessment and is reviewed regularly as your child progresses to ensure they continue receiving the right level of support.
After every therapy session, parents receive verbal feedback along with an online therapy checklist summarising the session and highlighting key observations. A comprehensive written progress report is also shared every month to review achievements, discuss ongoing goals and plan the next steps in your child’s development.
As your child grows and develops, therapy goals are reviewed regularly to ensure continued progress. If needed, session frequency, intervention strategies and therapy goals are adjusted so your child always receives the most appropriate support for their changing needs.
Every 45-minute Behaviour Therapy session is carefully planned around your child’s individual goals while remaining engaging, structured and enjoyable. Activities are tailored to each child’s needs and may include:
Helping children feel safe, comfortable and ready to learn.
Developing communication, understanding and expressive language skills.
Teaching children practical ways to recognise and regulate emotions.
Encouraging turn-taking, cooperation and positive peer interaction.
Using play to build learning, attention and problem-solving skills.
Building confidence in everyday routines and self-care.
Encouraging desired behaviours through evidence-based positive support.
Sharing progress, observations and practical strategies for home.
At Untangle, we believe behaviour is a form of communication rather than something to simply eliminate. Instead of focusing only on reducing challenging behaviours, we work to understand why they occur and teach children more effective ways to communicate, regulate emotions and participate confidently in everyday life. Our interventions are evidence-based, individualised and developed in close partnership with families to support meaningful, long-term progress.
